I had just helped Max with his bedtime routine and sent him from the bathroom to the bedroom to get to bed, and turned to help Zoey with her teeth brushing when I heard some very loud CLINKS... Like something very breakable in the hands of a little guy! So I ran into the room, and sure enough, Max was messing with the one breakable thing in the room, a little porcelein box from Zoey's birth. I went over and said, "Hey you, what are you doing?" Knowing clearly he was doing something he was not supposed to be doing, he ran into bed, laid down, snuggled with his doggies, closed his eyes and said, "I'm sleeping!"
Nice try, buddy!
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Max Ehrmann

Birthdays!
My two favorite males over the age of 32 had a birthday last week. Happy Birthday to my Dad and Ross. (I am only late on the blog, I actually did wish them Happy Birthday on the correct day:) I have a cute story about Zoey for this one... So for Ross' present, I had something planned for this past Monday, but didn't really think about a cake and stuff until the night before. I asked what he wanted, and his only request was, "whipped cream frosting, none of that thick other stuff." Translation for me: I get to go and buy it,not make it. So the next day (birthday) I run to the grocery store with the idea of just getting a cake and having Zoey decorate it. My only problem... all the ready made, whipped cream frosting cakes have flowers on them!! I am limited in time here, so I just get one and some decorator icing and move along. I also pick up some tonka truck party supplies, because Zoey feels like every birthday celebrated needs these types of things (adults included, and I agree). When Zoey gets home from school, I tell her we need to decorate the cake. I explain that we are going to scrape off the flowers and decorate it however she wants for Daddy. She exclaims, "We must keep the flowers!! That can be my piece, I love flowers!" How can I argue with that really? And what Daddy wouldn't love to share his cake with his daughter. She did a great job with the cake decorating, too. She said she could only write "Dad" because that is all that would fit. And then the drawing is a truck, with a big baton. And off to the side is another baton (she is into batons and conducting music, not Ross). And then she did the dots all along the outside.

And here is Ross with his Tonka truck plate. We had streamers, too.

As for the present, well, it was an adventure to remember, so stay tuned...

Happy Easter!!
In this house, we LOVE Easter. We look forward to it starting after Valentine's Day. And continue to talk about it until birthday time!! Egg hunts, decorating eggs, Easter cookies and trees, we just love it all! This year was really fun, too. Both of the kids were really into the egg hunts. We went to the base one, and then had one at our house this morning. After they hunted eggs and looked inside them all. Max and Zoey hid them themselves and then hunted all over again. They did this at least 4 times. It was very entertaining. I will put more pictures up, but I also wanted to tell this story... We got up early this morning for church. I usually write a check for the offering and put it in an envelope and then I let Zoey seal it up and decorate it and then place it in the basket. This morning she did the most precious thing. (I think anyway) She whispered to me, "How do you spell Jesus?" I looked down at the envelope and spelled it for her... this is what she had written:
to: Jesus
from: Zoey

If it's in writing, it must be true
Zoey was upset on Friday after she came home from school. She said that some boys in her class said she was not a good artist. "Why would they say I am not a good artist?" she asked me. I tell her, "Don't worry about what they say, you know that you are a good artist. And mommy and daddy think you are very good!" She made a face, clearly not satisfied with the answer, and then all of a sudden, an epiphany! "Oh!" she exclaims, "They said that, because they didn't know." And she runs off. And then she asks me how to spell the words good and artist. I am now quite intrigued about the solution she has come up with. She walks up to me with a paper taped to her shirt, like a name tag. The paper says,
Zoey
The Good Artist
The Good Artist
"There, now they know. They just didn't read the sign."

When I was your age...
I was helping in the library at Zoey's school when a girl asked me to read her a book about the planets. It was really funny to read it and see that Pluto wasn't in there! I knew that they no longer considered it a planet, but it was the first time I had seen it in print. Anyway, I think i need to get this shirt.
HA!
HA!
AMEN!!

I was saying prayers with Max the other night, when he decided to add a little more to it...
Usually we do the "Now I lay me, down to sleep" prayer and I either say the whole thing and then he says, "God Bless Mommy, Daddy, Zoey and Max, AMEN" at the end, Or we alternate every line all the way to the end. But this particular night he was perhaps being filled with the Holy Spirit a little bit? This is how it went:
Me: Now I lay me
Max: AMEN!
Me: Down to sleep,
Max: AMEN!
Me: (thinking this was too cute to stop) I pray the Lord,
Max: AMEN!
Me: my soul to keep
Max: AMEN!
and so it went... to the final AMEN!
I think there were smiles looking down on him:) Amen, Little Buddy, Amen!!

No More T
As in Toddler, and sizes. I think Max went through a growth spurt, and all of his clothes are too small, so I went to get him some stuff and I had to get out of the T sections. I had to go into the boys! Unless it is a big 5T, it is too small for him! Sigh. He's not even four years old yet! Bye bye my little toddler Max, I sure miss your squishy arms and legs and belly! Now you are getting taller and looking more like a big boy!
Ross and I think we just have early growing kids though, and that they are the BIG, Tall ones when they don't even care!! Ha, Ha.

Zoey Art O' the Day
Zoey's artwork has jumped up a level lately. She says she is adding "detail" and is making stories as well. I thought I would share one of her drawings:

She made a book for her teacher the other day. It was called Mrs. V's Kids
It was about 10 pages and she did everything on every single page. The gist of it was..."So many boys, so many girls. I love to play. Do you?" And she would draw a girl with a bubble saying, "I love to Play!" It was very cute.

UCLA Gymnastics
Zoey's gymnastics class gave us free tickets to the women's gymnastics meet at UCLA this Sunday. There were four teams, and I guess UCLA is pretty good, they have lots of national championships and were Pac 10 Champs last year, so that is cool. Here is Zoey with her tattoo.

They did their fight song of course, and Zoey liked it... Pretty easy and catchy...
U........ C....... L...... A........
UCLA!!UCLA!! UCLA!!! Go Bruins.
I told her to show her teacher her tattoo today at school, since she went to USC, hee, hee!

Oh the Happiest Day
Today. The happiest day. Not March 9th, exactly... just Daylight Saving Time... Yahoo!! I would lose an hour of sleep any day, to get more sunlight!! I do believe I suffer from that Seasonal Disorder!! Anyway, we had a warm, beautiful sunshiney day, and for that I am thankful. I hope you had a nice one too.
Happy March 6th Day!
don't worry, I know it is not March 6! I haven't completely lost it yet!! Ross and I had our very first real date on March 6, 2000. We went to the Cheesecake Factory right here in Redondo Beach. A year later, we decided to repeat the date at the Cheesecake Factory and later that evening we got engaged!! So started the tradition. Each year we go to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. This time was the ninth time! Sometimes we miss it by a day or so due to snow storms coming (a blizzard once in Boston), or Ross going out of town, but we always go and it is something to look forward to. We also do it as a family. Since it commemorates our beginning together and then our evolution forward, we kind of feel like it is a celebration of our family as well. Anyway, to make a long story short, we all had a nice time, enjoyed the food, especially dessert... and here are some pictures
A cute one of the kids outside of the restaurant. They are giving their Easter clothes a trial run. Zoey loves to dress up for church or going out, and this is her newest outfit, so she HAD to wear it!!

Me and Max

A self taken pic of me and Zoey, just hanging out waiting to pay. The boys had to leave by this time... Taking too long and Max needed to get out of the booth!!

Designer Z Handbags
marc jacobs? Coach? No, we only have Designer Zoey Handbags here...
All made from paper at the moment, but totally designed and manufactured by Zoey herself. Here are three little ones and a wallet.

A close up of this one to show the "designer pocket"

Forget leopard print... did you know Hippo Bags are all the rage?

And here is a specially designed one for Grandma. The S for Susie.

Here is the back of Grandma Susie's purse. Click on the picture to see it in detail. It is her famous Papa drawing. And he has a baseball on his shirt (he is a big fan). And Grandma has a flower on her dress.

I mentioned getting a sewing machine once and she was so excited. She wants to make little bags for all the girl's at school!! Since I don't know how to sew, this may be a problem, but I could totally see her doing this!! Are you ready to place an order?
