Ten on the Tenth - March 2014

The idea is to take ten photos on the tenth of the month and share it, documenting a day of your life and the ordinary moments. There is beauty in the ordinary.

Ahh... March, is always so welcome after winter for me... This is after the time change, though, so we were a little sleepy on this Monday morning...

Walking with Zoey to school, we pass by this bear thing... I think the dentist office dresses him up. He has since lost his hat, due to the wind.

Off Leo and I go to finish our walk. Since I had my camera, I tried to go all portrait style on Leo, but he wasn't really cooperating... too much goose poop to try and eat. I'm not kidding.

The sky was weird that day. It couldn't make up its own mind...
055

Then I went for a run... took this with my phone...

Afternoon coffee is a fav... although my coffeemaker broke (blah)... they are sending a new one.

And Leo finally realized he's a dog and that he's been missing out on the joys of sticking his head out of the car window...

Picked up Max from school... He's learning the recorder in music, so he had to play his latest song... and he got a buzz cut...

Getting ready for practice... it is soccer time in full swing...

And Ross... sporting the beginnings of Mustache March...

March 6 Family Date Night

One of my special nights of the year is our annual dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (around) March 6. Celebrating our first date, and on and on... this was the 15th time we had gone!! crazy, right?

Check out this post from long ago!

The good thing is, the kids know I look forward to it, and have always been on their best behavior. We started at a great Cheesecake Factory in Redondo Beach, where you looked out at the marina with the ocean and the boats. We have gone to Cheesecake Factory's in downtown Boston, and just at the regular mall as well... This year, we went to the one on Pearl Street in Boulder.

Our drive into Boulder takes us west, looking to the mountains.... Honestly, I am not a mountain gal. But, since we live here, I try and take pictures of the views we do have...

Thanks family, for another one!

flowers

Being in Phoenix in February made me think it was farther along in the year than it is and I have been wanting to plant flowers on our patio since I got home. But, it stills snows once a week, so I have to hold off a little more... Until then, I picked up some Trader Joe's flowers and put them in the kitchen.

I need to change things up a bit, as I apparently only take flower pictures where it comes in from the left side...

Here's to Spring! (officially tomorrow, hooray!)

More hard work...

Just turned the corner one morning and saw this...

001

He is playing an Angry Birds game where the pigs have hard hats too!

002

As you can tell from the peek into his room, he could just got from one thing to the next and just play, and play, and play...

Winter Skate

Our cute little town has its own ice rink in the winter. We decided to try it out. Zoey had only been once before and Max had never been, so we had a little bit of learning to do. They day was so warm and sunny, which was nice, but the ice was melting like crazy, so if you fell, you fell in to a big puddle of cold water!! We were trying to avoid that with Max, because once that happened he wouldn't want to continue... kids were crying all over the place after getting soaked!!

Anyway, both kiddos did really well and had fun...

Starting off slow... Ross had to take his shirt off, it was so warm... the kids stripped down too.

looks like some serious concentrating.
IMG_5204

the ice actually wasn't great. it was so lumpy and wet and there were leaves, so I think we all would have done better with smoother ice.

Max has his tongue out here.

getting the hang of it!

And then Zoey and Ross went to race and Max and I went off on our own and then we fell... and my camera hit the ice and the lens got broken!

So no more pictures! Max ended up going by himself a couple times before we finished up and Zoey really got the hang of it once she had the right skates!

Field Trip

Max had a field trip to the Denver Museum of Natural History and I got to chaperone! It was so fun... Here he is on the bus, very excited!

The main purpose was to see a Mayan exhibit. Here is Max following a pattern of blocks to make a picture.

And the final product!

no other pictures as I was trying to keep an eye on other kiddos and that is really hard in a museum!!

Soccer in Phoenix

Early in February, Zoey and I travelled to Phoenix, where her soccer team played in the Desert Classic Soccer tournament. It was a fun time of good soccer, warm sunshine and team bonding. I think the last part is important for them all and definitely a reason behind the trip...

The team was out of practice on the big field and really just in their off-season (especially compared to the two Arizona teams we played), and the level of competition was higher than they had seen in a while, so all things considered... they played pretty well. two ties and a loss. Zoey (who plays defense) was named player of the tournament by her coach, and I think she did a really good job. Especially in the first game, where they tied 0-0 (that's a win for the defense, right?) to the team that won the whole tournament in their bracket.

Anyway, like I said, the trip was nice overall for a lot of reasons. Zoey and I flew out early to spend a night with Grandma and Papa, and then Friday we headed out to the soccer game later in the day...

Here is soccer Arizona style

Zoey and her teammates just messing around before the game. I think they thought it was funny at first to see each other at the hotel (we had to stay at the same one) and then just in another state...
IMG_5140

Sun was starting to set (all the fields were lighted) before game time and it was getting chilly for the spectators. When we left Colorado it was crazy cold (like negative degrees) so I took my winter coat, and actually wore it here at night...
IMG_5142

Lovely desert sunset and soccer! Fun times. Zoey is defending against a corner kick over by the far post. I was so glad that my parents could come to all the games as well. It was funny to be out of towners, though, because the whole sideline was standing, as no one had chairs!
IMG_5143

I am okay with being horrible at taking soccer action photos (I just watch the game and am too into I guess) so I take pictures during half time!
IMG_5144

Our schedule was packed, including team lunches and movies and also supporting other teams from our club. I thought that was nice, though as they reciprocated, and watched our girls as well.
IMG_5145

And I had happy feet... wearing flip flops.
IMG_5148

We had two evening games, and the cooler temps helped our girls... for the final game it was hot (75) so it felt really warm to the girls and you could see it.

All in all, it was a fun experience and Zoey and I had fun together too! We enjoyed eating take out in the hotel and watching the Olympics at night, as well. Next year, though, we might have to bring the boys along and make it a family trip:)
