The Good from Children, and All Things Girl!

So kids are pretty awesome, aren't they? I mean, even on the roughest of days, they finally go to sleep and then they look like angels. And on the good days, you are reminded how to be. I love how they love without limits or conditions. They laugh with their whole selves. They cry with gusto!! And they soak up every little thing that you do. Which, if you allow it, can be a good thing. Change the bad habits and adopt new ones. Or open yourself up to other experiences or hobbies. Such is the case with me and my kids. I mean, Max has definitely brought me into a whole new world... the one of Legos! And Zoey, who is not princess-y or overly "girly", loves loves loves to do her crafts. Me? I'm not so crafty. Or creative. However, I am a girl who, like most, LOVES bags and shoes.

So thanks to Jeni, for her inspiration, and diary of a quilter for the tutorial, I entered into the land of sewing! I actually wanted to make the bag and then found a deal on a sewing machine, so I bought it with my birthday money and away we went...

Here are the bags for me and Zoey:

Here she is modeling hers. They had instructions for a smaller bag, but she wanted one to hold her books for her religion class, so I made hers adult sized.

The bags weren't so economical, considering the fact that I actually had to buy the machine to make them, but it was fun. The machine is computerized and does fancy stitching, so here's a close-up of one I tried out on the strap.

So, not too bad for my first ever sewing project, huh? Zoey is excited to now be able to make pillows and doggie beds and blankets... all things I can probably handle!
Thanks again Jeni. I will be on the lookout for more easy things!

I love both of them! The brown and blue looks so good together. How long did it end up taking to make the bags? Anna is going to want one now : ) What kind of sewing machine did you end up buying?

It took me longer than 32 minutes! I had to learn how to wind the bobbin and thread it all first! HAHA Seriously a beginner.
The machine is from Costco.. the one you saw. I will gladly make Anna one, if she doesn't mind imperfection. She could come for a playdate and help

Well shoot, you are showing me up on your first project! Isn't it fun. I LOVE to make stuff. I need a new machine so bad. I see your comment, I will have to look at Costco too. My machine is at least 10 years old and I had only paid $99 for it...so it's time. Good luck on your next adventure.
